About IREI
Impact Real Estate Infrastructure Canada (IREI) is a Canadian impact financial technology platform focused on strengthening the long-term stewardship and financial sustainability of impact real estate.
IREI is building common infrastructure to support stronger real estate decision-making, reporting and long-term stewardship across the impact sector, designed to complement - rather than replace - the systems organizations and public institutions already use.
IREI works with nonprofits, Indigenous organizations and other impact organizations, alongside governments and private-sector partners. Our work is being built in Canada, for Canadian conditions first, with a national perspective that recognizes differences across regions and jurisdictions. Over time, lessons from the Canadian model may also have relevance internationally.
Following the development and early testing of our first MVP, IREI is preparing for broader implementation and growth. We are intentionally building a small team and adding capacity carefully. We are looking for someone who can bring structure, accountability and consistent execution as the work grows.
OPERATIONS, FINANCE & GOVERNANCE.
We are looking for someone who can bring financial discipline, governance and accountability to a small entrepreneurial team - turning priorities into action and helping IREI grow carefully and sustainably.
The Opportunity
This is an early operating leadership role. The Operations, Finance & Governance Lead will help build the internal discipline behind IREI - owning the company's operating rhythm, budget and financial visibility, governance processes, and organizational follow-through as the company grows.
You will work closely with IREI's Founder & CEO and coordinate with underwriting, analysts, technology support and external professional advisors. Your role is to make sure priorities become action, financial commitments remain visible, governance obligations are completed, and the team has the structure needed to execute without every detail requiring founder intervention.
IREI is still early-stage. Some systems exist and others need to be created, tested and improved. We are looking for someone who enjoys bringing order to ambiguity, is comfortable owning internal processes, and can hold a highly entrepreneurial team accountable without slowing down its ability to create and experiment.
Core Capability: Operations, Finance, Governance & Accountability
This role combines company operations with practical financial management and governance. You do not need to be IREI's accountant, lawyer or tax specialist; you do need to own the internal processes, coordinate the right advisors and make sure the work gets completed. Responsibilities may include:
- Maintaining company priorities, action logs, owners, deadlines and a consistent operating cadence
- Owning the annual operating budget, rolling cash-flow forecast, budget-to-actual review and resource planning
- Tracking project economics, contractor commitments, invoicing inputs, accounts receivable and key financial obligations
- Coordinating with bookkeeping, accounting, tax, legal, insurance and other professional advisors and ensuring required actions are completed
- Maintaining the corporate governance calendar, decision records, board/shareholder materials, policies, contracts and key compliance deadlines
- Maintaining a practical risk register and helping ensure material operational, financial and governance risks remain visible
- Coordinating internal delivery across underwriting, analysts, technology and external advisors
- Preparing leadership meetings, capturing decisions and actions, following up on commitments and escalating blockers when needed
- Building repeatable operating procedures, templates, checklists, document controls and internal systems that can scale with IREI
- Helping the Founder & CEO maintain visibility across company priorities, capacity and commitments without needing to manage every detail
Required Background
There is no single perfect professional background for this role. We are looking for someone who has demonstrated that they can run complex operations, work confidently with budgets and financial information, maintain governance discipline and create reliable follow-through in a fast-moving environment.
- Operations, business management, corporate administration, finance, consulting, project management or professional- services delivery
- Experience owning or supporting operating budgets, cash-flow planning, budget-to-actual reporting or project economics
- Experience coordinating work across multiple stakeholders, disciplines, advisors or organizations
- Strong written communication, documentation, decision tracking and follow-up skills
- Comfort with spreadsheets, financial information, shared documents and digital project-management tools
- Ability to prioritize, manage deadlines and hold senior and junior team members accountable respectfully
Complementary Experience We Value
The following experience would be particularly useful, but we do not expect one person to bring every item. We would particularly value experience in real estate development, finance, and/or nonprofit or Indigenous organizations.
Finance & Corporate Operations
Strong financial literacy is important. We are looking for someone who can own IREI's internal budget and financial management processes, understand cash flow and commitments, monitor project economics and work effectively with bookkeeping, accounting and tax professionals. A CPA designation is not required; the ability to understand the numbers, ask the right questions and keep the company financially disciplined matters more.
Governance, Public & Cross-Sector Work
Experience supporting corporate governance, boards, policies, contracts, compliance or risk management would be valuable. Exposure to nonprofits, Indigenous organizations, municipalities, provincial or territorial governments, federal organizations, Crown corporations, real estate or private-sector partners is also useful. Experience across more than one Canadian jurisdiction is an asset.
Systems & Process Building
We value people who have built an operating system, improved a workflow, created useful templates, established a governance or reporting cadence, introduced better financial controls, or otherwise made a team more effective. Comfort with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Excel and modern collaboration tools is useful. French-language capability is an asset.
Communication, Accountability & Community Impact
This role requires persistence, discretion and good judgment. You should be comfortable following up, clarifying responsibilities, making commitments visible and asking for accountability respectfully. You should be able to bring financial and governance discipline to a highly entrepreneurial environment without becoming bureaucratic or slowing down the team.
You do not need to come from the impact sector. You do need to genuinely care about contributing to society and using your professional skills to improve outcomes for people and communities at a larger scale.
WHAT MATTERS TO US
Ownership. Follow-through. Integrity. Respect for others. Curiosity. Clear communication. A willingness to help a small team build something meaningful and make it work in practice.
The Person We Are Looking For
- Exceptionally organized, dependable and comfortable owning company-wide follow-through
- Strong at managing multiple priorities and coordinating tasks across team members and advisors - tracking decisions, responsibilities and deadlines, and making sure commitments are followed through to completion
- Financially literate and comfortable taking responsibility for budgets, cash-flow visibility and project economics
- Comfortable owning governance processes, coordinating professional advisors and making sure obligations are completed
- Proactive - notices what is missing, closes loops and acts before a problem becomes urgent
- Able to create structure and operating rhythm while the organization and processes are still evolving
- Entrepreneurial enough to work in ambiguity, but disciplined enough to turn ideas into execution
- An excellent communicator who can work effectively with very different personalities, working styles and professional backgrounds - knowing when to listen, when to clarify, when to follow up and when to push for a decision
- Comfortable holding people accountable respectfully and distinguishing what can be solved independently from what needs escalation
- Collaborative, low-ego, discreet and willing to learn across real estate, finance, technology, governance, public policy and impact
- Motivated by responsible growth, institutional discipline and a genuine desire to use their work to strengthen communities and improve people's lives
Location & Role Structure
The role is remote and can be based anywhere in Canada. IREI is headquartered in British Columbia and works with organizations and partners across Canada.
This role will intentionally begin on a part-time / fractional basis, anticipated at approximately 10-15 hours per week, and is intended to transition into a full-time role if we work well together. As IREI grows, the role is expected to expand into broader senior operational leadership over time, including responsibility for company operations, financial management, governance, team capacity and organizational execution.
We are intentionally growing the team carefully. We are looking for someone who wants to build the company with us over time and who can grow in responsibility as IREI becomes more complex. Timing and structure are flexible, and compensation will reflect the individual's experience, availability and agreed scope.
A Rolling Conversation
This is intentionally a rolling call for interest rather than a conventional recruitment process. There is no fixed application deadline. We are more interested in finding the right person than filling the role quickly.
If the work interests you but you do not meet every preferred qualification, we would still be interested in hearing from you. We care most about judgment, ownership, financial discipline, accountability, communication and a willingness to build with us.
How to Express Interest
Please send a resume and a short cover letter explaining why the opportunity interests you, the experience you would bring and what you hope to contribute.
Shortlisted candidates should expect more than one conversation with IREI and members of the team. Capability is important, but communication, collaboration, curiosity and working style also matter. We want both the candidate and IREI to have enough time to determine whether there is a strong mutual fit.
Why IREI?
IREI is being built in Canada, for Canada first. Our work sits at the intersection of real estate, finance, technology, government and impact around a shared objective: stronger long-term stewardship and sustainability for impact real estate.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to help build the corporate operating system of a young impact financial technology company - creating the financial discipline, governance, accountability and capacity needed to turn an ambitious idea into a durable organization.
